Each Thanksgiving, my family enjoys this cranberry sauce recipe. I add a special twist by using Trader Joe’s extra flavorful cranberries. This dish has been a hit in my house for the last few holiday seasons. Enjoy this special holiday dish with your loved ones!  I hope you love it as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar, or 3/4 cup honey or maple syrup, add more to taste (I prefer to use granulated sugar)

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries (Trader Joe's fresh cranberries for extra flavor!)

  • Optional add-ins at the start of cooking:

    • 2 wide strips of lemon zest; or

    • 2 wide strips of orange zest,

Directions

  • Wash your cranberries; remove any that look bruised.

  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar (or sweeter of your choice) and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

  • Add the cranberries and bring to a gentle boil.

  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens.

  • Taste and add more sweetener if needed.

  • Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature before serving.

  • If you like your cranberry sauce cold, start a bit earlier so you have time to allow it to cool, and then place it in the fridge.

  • Enjoy the delicious flavor!
