Each Thanksgiving, my family enjoys this cranberry sauce recipe. I add a special twist by using Trader Joe’s extra flavorful cranberries. This dish has been a hit in my house for the last few holiday seasons. Enjoy this special holiday dish with your loved ones! I hope you love it as much as I do!
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar, or 3/4 cup honey or maple syrup, add more to taste (I prefer to use granulated sugar)
3/4 cup water
12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries (Trader Joe's fresh cranberries for extra flavor!)
Optional add-ins at the start of cooking:
2 wide strips of lemon zest; or
2 wide strips of orange zest,
Directions
Wash your cranberries; remove any that look bruised.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar (or sweeter of your choice) and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Add the cranberries and bring to a gentle boil.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens.
Taste and add more sweetener if needed.
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature before serving.
If you like your cranberry sauce cold, start a bit earlier so you have time to allow it to cool, and then place it in the fridge.
Enjoy the delicious flavor!
