Grandma Sheila’s Chocolate Squares

Lincoln Restler, Council District 33:

My Grandma Sheila was a Brooklyn-born social worker and the matriarch of our family. Though she was a terrible cook, her chocolate squares remain my favorite dessert of all time.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of condensed milk

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

  • 12 oz chocolate chips

  • 1 cup raisins

  • 1 cup walnuts chopped

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • Grease an 8-inch square baking pan

  • Mix all ingredients together by hand in a large bowl

  • Pour into the baking pan, pat down, and bake for 10-15 minutes -- the top should be brown

  • Cut into squares while warm and remove from the pan
